NJ Advance Media Catch a rare glimpse of a 4-week-old newborn black bear growing up without leaving your computer. Fortunately, Mike is recovering and will stay at the facility through spring while he gains his strength. The refuge will be livestreaming the cub’s everyday life while he’s there.
Mike the cub and his brother Ike were orphaned when a deer hunter came across their den and shot their mother in self defense. The cubs were each one pound when they arrived at Woodlands Wildlife Refuge in Pittstown, New Jersey last month.
Ike sadly didn’t make it. “We acknowledge that in spite of our best efforts as wildlife rehabilitators, we are only second best to those wild mothers,” Woodlands Wildlife Refuge told NJ.com.
Once Mike is ready to go back into the wild, his caretakers hope to find a black bear mom with cubs of her own that can take in Mike. Read more…
