Hey, there are lots of lists of the Top 10 sports stories of 2014. Im sure the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Seahawks winning championships deserve recognition. Number one goes to the fan who caught Conrad Gregors first professional home run for the Quad Cities River Bandits.
It was the perfect live shot for the TV station in Portland. Snow was coming down, and when that happens, local newsrooms go nuts. So the reporter in the field was thrilled when a couple of joggers happened by. The woman jogger said the snow was “the perfect texture for running.” Maybe not—as she confidently jogged away … you can guess the rest.
The Los Angeles Kings had just clinched the Stanley Cup. The reporter for KNBC-TV was doing his live shot on the ice, and behind him was a handful of women in short skirts and high heels. One of the women decided to walk across the ice behind the reporter. What could possibly go wrong?
Here’s another terrific TV moment from the past year. In the Netherlands what better place is there to interview an Olympic gold medalist than on a boat? Unfortunately the boat is on water, and you can kind of guess the rest.
In this world of “look at me” in sports, this one takes the cake. He’s a French steeplechase runner named Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad, and he was about to win the 3000-meter steeplechase at the European Championships.
