Hey, there are lots of lists of the Top 10 sports stories of 2014. Im sure the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Seahawks winning championships deserve recognition. Number one goes to the fan who caught Conrad Gregors first professional home run for the Quad Cities River Bandits.
People make all sorts of catches in the stands. They use their hats and buckets of popcorn to try and snare their coveted souvenirs. But I thought this one topped them all. Jordy Mercer hit a two-run shot for the Pirates in a loss to the Giants in San Francisco. The ball landed splat in a woman’s beer. The suds were a total loss, but her son was eventually given the baseball.

It was the perfect live shot for the TV station in Portland. Snow was coming down, and when that happens, local newsrooms go nuts. So the reporter in the field was thrilled when a couple of joggers happened by.
